Classroom dance lessons
Throughout
the year students participate in weekly classroom dance lessons. The wonderful Performing Arts Hall is used
for their dance classes. Students are guided though the classroom dance program
by Kerri Theuerkauf or Mathew Young the Performing Arts team at Bellevue
Park. Students learn how to warm up
their bodies, learn dance sequences, improvise, create their own choreography
and take part in the yearly Performing Arts show.
Dance groups
Bellevue
Park is very proud of their dance troupe called the Energisers and Inspirators. These groups are made of students in Years
3/4 and 5/6 who audition to perform dance items at many eisteddfods and school
performances. There are a number of
factors considered at the audition including more than just a student’s dance
ability. The groups rehearse each week
before school and during break times to enhance their dance skills. The groups are run by the creative team Mrs
Theuerkauf and Mr Young who create exciting new dance items each year.
Here
are some comments by some students who have been in the Inspirators program at
Bellevue Park:
“I
once was a shy person who never could perform.
But now I am much more confident and stronger to just let everything
out. I cannot believe I’ve had the
opportunity to do this. I am very happy
that I tried out and now this will change my life forever”.
“Being
involved in the Inspirators has given me more confidence to strive for higher
goals which will give me more opportunity to be best I can be. I can now perform in front of an audience
without being shy. The Inspirators have
inspired me and many others”.
“It
has made me feel like I actually belong to something and I am needed. I have improved my self-confidence. Also I have spent more time having fun with
friends and also people who I haven’t known who have the same interest in
dance. It has made me learn a lesson
about believing in myself and also if I have a goal to do something, it can
always happen”.
Major Achievements
- Placed 1st,
2nd and 3rd or Highly Commended at local eisteddfods
(Gold Coast & Beenleigh).
- High percentage
of Year 6 students gaining entry into Performing Arts Excellence programs
for high school.
