Physical Education at Bellevue Park State School
Overview
At the core of Health and Physical Education is the acquisition of movement skills and concepts to enable students to participate in a range of physical activities - confidently, competently and creatively. As a foundation for lifelong physical activity participation and enhanced performance, students acquire an understanding of how the body moves and develop positive attitudes towards physical participation.
At Bellevue Park State School all students from Prep to Year 6 participate in weekly specialist Physical Education classes with an emphasis placed on developing the gross and fine motor skills of our students, especially in the lower school.
During the first and fourth terms, students are exposed to a series of activities that are aimed at improving their throwing, catching, kicking and hitting skills. In the second and third terms, students focus on track and field events as well as studying two individual units on a particular sport suck as Touch, Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Cricket, Badminton, Hockey or Netball.
Additionally, all students in Year 1 to 6 participate in swimming lessons during Term 4. Bellevue Park is also home to "Belly" the Bulldog, the school teams mascot.
